Serbian nationalism asserts that Serbs are a nation and promotes and encourage the cultural unity of all Serbs. It is an ethnic nationalism and includes all speakers of the Štokavian dialect despite their religion or area where they live or came from.
The nationalists believe that all Serbs in the Yugoslav republics had the right to be united in one common state. Thus, ethnic conflict occurred between Serbs seeking unity with other Serbs clashed with Yugoslav ethnicities sought independence.
