Yugoslavia

Known as the Kingdom of Yugoslovia from 1929 onwards, it was located in Southeast Europe and was made up of six republics: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia.

 All these groups spoke closely related languages or dialects of the same languages. The idea of a common Yugoslav identity contended during the 19th century with the nationalist ideologies of each republic. These separate and individual ideologies were incompatible on the most part.
